 Inspiration and technique

Into the Woods 03 web.jpg

Photography is much more about evoking emotional response and intellectual challenge than F stops and technicalities.

From the fairytale of ‘Hansel and Gretel’ to John Denver’s lyric “you fill up my senses like a night in the forest” and from Tolkein’s Mirkwood to the Gruffalo’s warning that “No Gruffalo should ever set foot in the deep dark wood” the idea of ‘The Wood’ as a place of both great appeal, mystery, and possibly danger, has a long and enduring provenance.

It has that prestige just because it does touch a deep and profound chord in our individual and cultural consciousness.

Lynn saw something rather special and, being the outstanding photographer that she is, captured that ‘something special’ with the click of a shutter.

The 2014 film Into the Wood, uses this setting to explore issues of cause and effect and personal responsibility through the interaction of characters from different fairy tales and stories.

Lynn’s Into the Wood images belong to this genre of art - photography at its best, visual incentives to ask questions about value and meaning through the application of our own mysterious imaginations.

Dare you go down into the woods…?

“You fill up my senses

Like a night in a forest…”

—Annie’s Song by John Denver
