 CLASSIC NOTEBOOKS

Traditionally Hand Stitched

Our Classic Notebooks come in two sizes with a variety of contents - lined, squared, and dot matrix.

To create each book block, we prick the page signatures, hand stitch them with linen thread, add some colourful headbands and finish with beautiful endpapers. We then case it into its cover.

To cover our Classic Notebooks we use a range of exquisite handmade papers from Japan, Nepal and India and a fabulous range of marbled paper produced and printed in the UK by Jemma Lewis.

Beautiful Marbled Papers

We use a selection of designs from a stunning array of fabulous printed marbled papers produced by Jemma Lewis. They create some wonderful colour combinations when teamed with colourful bookcloths.

 Japanese Chiyogami Paper

Oriental symbolic patterns were inspired by stylish Kyoto ladies’ kimonos worn during the Edo Period. Originally the paper was developed as woodblock prints but now it is hand screen printed using up to 5 colours requiring a precision registration process. Its fine delicate appearance belies an innate dry and wet strength and flexibility making it eminently suited to bookbinding and box making…

Nepalese Mulberry Paper

Originating from remote villages in the Kathmandu Valley, these Lokta papers are made from the bark of a Mulberry bush. Each paper sheet is made from the pulp created by cooking the beaten bark which is then dissolved in water and formed on a screen. The sheets are dried in the sun, either vertically or at an angle, and then transported to Kathmandu where they are dyed and screen printed using Environmentally Friendly Processes and Fair Working Standards.
